The rules for participating in the SJV Chess Club are the same as for participating in any other school sports or after school program. All school rules apply. Chess Club Rules 1) No talking or whispering during chess lessons or when the coach is giving directions. 2) No toys, games, trading cards, books or other non-chess items are allowed at chess club. Leave all such items in your book bags or lockers. Students will be given one chance to put away any such item. If the student does not put the item away, it will be taken away and given to the student’s parent or guardian. 3) Bathroom policy – Students are to use the bathrooms before chess club begins or after the lesson is complete. Lessons generally last between 10 to 20 minutes. The coach recognizes that emergencies do occur. If a student simply cannot wait then he or she will be permitted to use the bathroom. 4) No trips to the drinking fountain will be permitted during the chess lesson. Students must go either before or after the lesson. 5) No running, pushing, shoving, wrestling, “Martial Arts” practice, tag or other games. 6) No playing under the tables. 7) No eating while using the chess equipment. All students must clean up after themselves (especially wrappers and any food or crumbs). 8) All students must be careful with the chess equipment and help put it away when chess club is finished. 9) All students must help keep the cafeteria / chess club playing area neat and clean.
